As Pontes Thermal Power Plant
Grupo Resa completed in July the execution of the contract for the supply, design, installation and assembly of Thermal Insulation in gas ducts and pipes in the desulphurization project of the As Pontes Power Plant.
More than 40 years old, this combined cycle thermal power plant belongs to Endesa and is located in Puentes de García Rodríguez, A Coruña. It consists of four conventional coal-fired cycles totaling 1,468 MW of power, and an 800 MW natural gas combined cycle.

In 2018, the GE Power ECS – Imasa consortium began the modernization process to reduce the plant’s pollutant emissions and adapt to the requirements of the European Industrial Emissions Directive (EID) and the BREF. Desulfurization is a key element, as it achieves an 80% reduction in sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions.
Resa Group developed the thermal insulation works of ducts and pipes following the specifications and planning of the project under UNE 92301 standard. The execution of our scope has lasted one year, with a staff of more than 56,000 hours between local specialists and Prezioso Portugal workers at peak times of the work.
In 2018, the government materialized the process of closing coal-fired thermoelectric facilities, announcing the closure of all thermal power plants and the stoppage of their investments in order to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. The loss of competitiveness of coal due to the decrease in the price of natural gas from 2019 and the increase in the cost of the CO2 emissions allowance has recently led Endesa to start the procedures for the dismantling of its thermal power plant in As Pontes, sending to the Ministry of Ecological Transition its project for the dismantling of groups 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the As Pontes thermal power plant, which is in the process of environmental assessment as it is the most polluting in Spain.
